Ellerslie Hops, is excited to offer brewers access to AMSAT Character Malts, who are a passionate South Australian producer dedicated to crafting high-quality specialty malts with a focus on provenance, flavour, and innovation. With over 40 years of roasting experience under the Australian Malting Services and Technology (AMSAT) name, they bring both tradition and a fresh perspective to modern malt production.

Based in Burton, South Australia, AMSAT returned to the craft malting scene in 2021 with a renewed commitment to supporting local agriculture and Australian grain growers. Their malts are handmade using locally grown barley, chosen for quality and character, and roasted with a “flavour first” philosophy. Rather than mimicking imported styles, AMSAT develops malts that bring their own distinct personality to every brew.

The range includes standout products such as CaraDex, offering gentle sweetness and foam retention, light and medium crystal malts with deep, fresh caramel tones, and darker malts that deliver chocolate and coffee notes—without the astringency often found in similar products.
AMSAT’s attention to detail extends beyond the malt itself. Their 12.5kg bag format provides versatility for recipe development, ease of handling in larger breweries, and improved turnover for guaranteed freshness.

We’re excited to bring AMSAT’s characterful, Australian-made malts to our brewing partners—helping you support local ingredients, explore unique flavour profiles, and work with malts that are as fresh and bold as the beers you brew.
