Our Story

Ellerslie Hops is a fourth-generation, family-owned hop grower located in the heart of the King Valley region in North East Victoria. Since the 1930’s, we’ve been proudly cultivating Australian hops with a focus on quality, consistency, and long-term sustainability.

As a locally owned business, we are deeply committed to supporting the Australian beer industry—from independent craft breweries to the largest commercial producers nationwide. Our hops are also enjoyed in beers across international markets, including Asia, the United States, Germany, and the UK.

Sustainability is central to everything we do. Our farming practices are grounded in long-term care for the land, including the use of organic fertilisers and repurposing green waste into natural soil enhancers. Our hop breeding program is focused on developing varieties that are drought-tolerant, high-yielding, and well-suited to the Australian climate. We invest in renewable energy through on-site solar infrastructure, and we are continually exploring and adopting new farming practices and technologies to improve both productivity and environmental impact.

With over 90 years of experience, we remain proudly Australian, deeply connected to our region, and focused on growing hops that meet the evolving needs of brewers—locally and around the world.

Our Facilities

In 2018, Ellerslie Hops faced a devastating setback when a catastrophic fire destroyed our entire production facility. It was a challenging moment for our business and community—but one that ultimately became a turning point. Rather than simply rebuild, we took the opportunity to design and construct a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility that reflects both our heritage and our future.

The new processing site features a modern hop picking machine from Dauenhauer, known for its efficiency and precision, along with an innovative kiln drying system designed to enhance consistency and quality throughout the drying process. We also upgraded our pelleting plant to support high-performance final production, ensuring every step from harvest to packaging meets the highest standards of product integrity.

This rebuild marked not just a recovery, but a transformation—allowing us to integrate advanced technology, improve operational efficiency, and continue delivering premium Australian hops to brewers with confidence and care.

Our Suppliers

Beyond our own production capabilities, Ellerslie Hops is also a proud partner to a trusted portfolio of brewing ingredient suppliers. We partner with Coopers Malt and AMSAT Character Malts to supply Australian-grown and manufactured base and specialty malts—offering brewers high-quality, locally produced options that support domestic agriculture and consistent performance in the brewhouse.
To complement our own range of Australian hop varieties, we partner with Hopsteiner to bring a selection of premium international hop products to the Australian market, giving brewers access to a broader spectrum of flavour profiles and brewing possibilities.
We also partner with Lallemand Brewing to provide their full range of brewing yeasts, as well as the AB Vickers line of enzymes, process aids, and adjuncts—supporting technical performance and product consistency across a variety of brewing styles. For distillers, we work with Angel Yeast, offering specialised distilling strains tailored to the unique requirements of the spirits industry.
These partnerships reflect our commitment to being more than just a hop grower—we aim to be a trusted, full-service supplier to the brewing and distilling communities across Australia. Please see the “About Our Suppliers” section of our website for more information on each of our partners.
